This Spotlight video features Hub & Spoke System grantee WCHS, Inc., Riverside Treatment Center located in Riverside, California. Medical Director of Riverside Treatment Center, Dr. Ruh, describes his best practices for balancing patients on medication by using patient history. Dr. Ruh is a board-certified Addictionologist and has over 25 years of experience treating substance use disorders. Dr. Ruh speaks about the difference between buprenorphine and methadone and how treatment with these medications can vary depending on the patient. Grant Manager, Victoria O’Gara, describes the patient-centered approach staff provide at Riverside Treatment Center to improve the quality of care for patients. This Spotlight video features Hub & Spoke System grantee County of Santa Cruz Health Services Agency (Emiline, Watsonville, and Homeless Persons Health). County of Santa Cruz Health Services Agency’s Health Services Manager, Danny Contreras, describes how he uses the Alternatives to Violence (AVP) Workshops to aid ending the stigma around people that use drugs. The County of Santa Cruz Health Services Agency invites all staff members and members from different parts of their community to participate in the workshops with the goal of creating an environment that prioritizes seeing each other as human beings first. FDA Approves New Buprenorphine Treatment Option for Opioid Use Disorder
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Brixadi (buprenorphine) extended-release injection for subcutaneous use (under the skin) to treat moderate to severe opioid use disorder (OUD). This FDA press release describes details about Brixadi for treatment at H&SS-funded facilities.
